The End of Childhood Innocence?

Ok, so I rarely go off on philosophical tangents, but I feel strongly about this. With all the wars, killing, back-stabbing, going on in real life, do we really need children's tv, games, and conversations to center around this too? I for one, do not want my daughters hearing about killing and violence, when they don't even understand the finality of that word. Or thinking that fighting is fun. Or learning how to call their friend's names that hurt from a yellow, bucktoothed, sponge! I'm putting my foot down. Because I live where I do and I have had the opportunities that I have had, my children have the opportunity to have an extended childhood full of innocence and safety. Children in Iraq, Africa, India, etc...begin to lose their innocence at birth because of war, famine, natural disasters, to name a few. If I can protect my kids and kids around me from that until they are old enough to understand these things a bit better, then I'm going to try! Please help. Don't encourage kids to play or watch shows with unnecessary fighting or violence. Don't buy them games that perpetuate these things. Fight for their innocence for as long as you can. Don't give in. If we don't fight for them, who will?

Grown up....

At the beginning of last month, one of my best friends got married. She has been married before, but didn't have a real wedding with her first husband, the jerk, so I was ecstatic when she said she was engaged and actually going to have her dream wedding. We have been friends since 1988, since 7th grade, but we actually were in the same first grade class. Anyway, we have been through a lot together and she is like another sister to me. David took the pics for her wedding and he did a fabulous job. This one just hit me and reminded me of how much we are really "grown up" now. We both have two kids, loving husbands and finally the lives we both dreamed about as kids looking up at the stars from my backyard, giggling with girlish naivety.

Bare Minerals

If I ever decided I have had enough of grad school, I could so work for Bare Escentuals. Totally got Kit Kat hooked on the best makeup in the world. Does this mean I am contributing to the downfall of one of the members of Market's Whores?

It never fails, anytime I take the time to put it on, I get the best compliments. Hmm? do I really look that tired and worn down all the time or am I just getting old?

BTW, they just came out with a new Rare Minerals for acne!! KT and I are going to watch tomorrow morning online-shh...

Fantasy Football

So, David came home the other day and told me he had signed us up for Fantasy Football. Anyone who knows me well, knows I love sports! I was a little apprehensive about this, we had even taken a few jabs at those "losers" with nothing to do but set lineups, trade players, hang on every word of the game your guy is playing in...now we have joined the fold. It's fun so far. I'll keep ya posted. Kudos to anyone out there who can tell me what a Jackalope is. No fair using google or wikipedia!! That is the name of my team. David's is the Cape Cod Cabelleros!

Here I am!

Ok, ok, I really suck at this. You would think that with all of the time I spend on my computer I would find the time to write a few words every few days. I think part of the problem is that I am not sure if anyone really reads this. I gotta get David to do this with me. He is so eloquent and thought provoking. That's what made me fall in love with him. Anyway, I'll be better. Here's the update:

Abby: Getting two front teeth, hasn't bit me yet. Thank goodness! Rolling to her tummy a lot while on the bed and making crawling movements, but when you put her on the floor she whines until you pick her up. She'll crawl soon.

Isabel: I think she misses some of her old friends from Pre-K. About half are new in her kindergarten. She will be starting Daisy Scouts this week. Aww... Don't worry though, no cookie sales for her. Not until she reaches Brownie status. I know, I was looking forward to the Thin Mints too!

David: Attending UW Law School open house. He will learn about how insane it is and how much he has to fork over and get to chat with some schools. It's getting scary real!! I'm ecstatic for him. His test is coming up in less than two weeks now.

Me: Trying to write, work out, organize, be mommy and partner, to mention a few. Seriously, does this get better? I don't see how it can, if I actually have to graduate and get a "real" job and work more hours. Where do people find the time?

Moving Sucks!

So, as most of you know, we are moving in less than a month to Eagle Heights to a two bedroom apartment that is significantly smaller than where we live know. I hate moving and packing. So does David. I've tried to stay ahead of the game by starting to pack things up a little bit at a time. We are going to have to move some things into storage and others to the apartment. Nice thing about it is that I get to purge stuff and reorganize our life! I've already gotten rid of tons of clothes and we are making a big pile for a super moving sale next weekend. Anything that doesn't sell is going to charity! That should help bunches. The challenging thing is to do it with two small children, while working 28 hours a week and work on my thesis. It never ends!! Wish us luck.

Technology!

So anyone who knows me, knows that i love gadgets. I love technology. If I didn't suck at math I would be a good engineer. My computer has been having issues lately all of them related to the new Internet Explorer 7. I guess it has some vulnerabilities that aren't being picked up by Windows Update. Since I always have to be on top of things and I like tabbed browsing I downloaded IE 7 last month and have had nothing but problems since. At one point I couldn't even access the internet. I downloaded Firefox (an alternative tabbed browser) and love it. I use this at work all the time. Way less vulnerable than Microsoft stuff. I would just delete IE 7 except for the fact that I need it to check out Southwest's low fares on DING (if you don't have this installed, do it!) and submit my timesheets. Other than that I am done with it.

Ok, so how many of you knew I was this much of a techie? LOL I have been on my computer for two days looking at sites that would help me fix it and I think I finally did. We'll see though.
